Half Life 2 was not made for VR and it shows IMO. The pace of the game felt all wrong when I played it trough Garry's Mod and it would require all sorts of updates or rework for it to look and feel good in VR. Compare it to Half Life Alyx and it's night and day in difference. However I suggest you try it, it is interesting to experience it in VR :)
Half-Life 2 (and the episodes) are a zombie game, a urban combat game, a driving combat game, a puzzle game, and more. Many elements are reused (Nova Prospekt's turret standoffs, or gunship battles), but they're usually either damn fun or damn exciting or damn thrilling.
Half-Life 2 is a very impressive and engaging shooter, and a faithful follow-up to one of the greatest PC games of all time.
