Feb 12, 2018. #6. Just to add further weight, yes the 1.3 diesel has a chain 1.9 diesel has a belt. They are totally different engines that do not share common parts. Chain supposedly doesn’t need changing till 200,000miles but quite a few horror stories of them snapping early if not looked after.
