When I asked about a software update to make the regen run longer and hotter, they checked back with GM and said no such update exists.
The only way to know what is going on for sure is to recognise the signs when the car is doing a DPF regeneration. Yes, but its bad practice to force a regen if its not needed. In the DPF module check for soot levels. The regen should be activated around 25grams of soot +/- automatically. The ecu uses a pressure differential sensors in the DPF to calculate the load/pressure infront and behind the dpf filter. You can check those in the live data measurement.
The DPF was around 60% when I started off and within 6 miles you could watch the levels start to reduce and at the end was at 5 % and stopped there. It seemed to start during the first few miles, I was at 60 mph in auto around 1500 revs, there was no noticible smoke, increase of revs or smell. The whole process was undetectable and seamless.
